Due to security risks, Tesla wants to record FSD Beta testers

Tesla has decided to use its multi-camera system, which powers Autopilot, TeslaCam, and Sentry Mode, to record the beta testers of fully automated driving inside and outside the vehicle.

What is interesting is whether Tesla will ask the car owner to agree to be recorded. It seems that they really have no choice, as long as they want to be FSD Beta testers. This situation is similar to Tesla's Safety Score system.

For some time, Tesla has been using on-board cameras to monitor drivers. Car owners can choose to use other cameras in the car to record accidents, which may be helpful to the authorities and insurance companies. However, this will be the first time Tesla has used its camera system to record shots of specific drivers, which seems to be to hold them accountable.

As Tesla continues to roll out updated versions of its FSD Beta software, it has been working hard to make the situation safer. Not long ago, the company implemented a safety score Beta system to help determine which Tesla owners will be the first to join the growing FSD Beta testing team.

Now, according to Electrek, Tesla has updated the warning users receive when they promise to download the latest FSD Beta wireless software update. Remember, the warning has always been there, and most of it has not changed, but now there is an additional message with the following content:

"By enabling FSD Beta, I agree that Tesla will collect VIN-related image data from the vehicle's external camera and Cabin Camera in the event of a serious safety risk or a safety incident such as a collision."

As Electrek pointed out, the fact that the message says "associated with VIN" is key. This means that Tesla will no longer process data anonymously. Assuming that when an incident or accident related to FSD Beta occurs, which will definitely cause a sensation in the media, Tesla may try to prove that this is not a technical fault. In addition, automakers may be able to use these lenses to initiate updates so that similar things are unlikely to happen in the future.

Tesla is currently updating the FSD Beta test car to version 10.5 for drivers with a safety score of 98 or higher.

Although many media outlets have pointed out that some people who pay for FSD Beta may be dissatisfied with Tesla's safety score, it seems that many people understand that this is a necessary step to help minimize accidents.

The new camera lens is another step in the same direction, although some people may not agree to be recorded and picked out. Maybe Tesla is counting on the fact that some of them are people it shouldn’t test its technology. Do you think this will rub some people in the wrong way?
