Mike Crivello's Camera employee runs 5K in the store

Troy Freund likes to run.

In fact, he likes running so much that he ran his own "supercar" on the Milwaukee River Greenway a few weeks ago-39 miles in 11 hours.

"This is really great," Freund said.

If there is a way to combine the two, he may have found it.

On Wednesday, he will try something other Mike Crivello's Camera employees have never considered: he will run 5K in Brookfield's small camera store.

But why, you might ask? It's very simple, really; for the customer.

If he runs 5K within 35 minutes, customers will get a 5% discount on used equipment in the store within a week starting from Black Friday. If he completes it within 30 minutes, the discount increases to 10%.

Yes, this store will be open when Freund plans to race about 3.1 miles.

"If customers want to see this stupid guy running around in the store, they can be there," Freund said.

He added: “People who don’t know about this may show up and say, what the hell is going on.”

Freund gained motivation from the six-day race of the Dome Motorsports event, a 144-hour continuous race in the Pettit Center.

"I tried to think of some stupid and interesting things for this store, and I thought, oh, I can do a small part of it," he said.

Freund is also a photographer who manages social media for the store at 18110 W. Blue Mound Road in Brookfield.

He likes to connect with customers in unique ways, some of which include making YouTube videos in which he performs magic or Zumba.

He said: "We just wanted to come up with something that a small locally owned business could uniquely do, which would be different from anyone else."

The store will open at 10 am on Wednesday. The game will start around 10:30 am

Freund attributed it to a science. He needs to run three laps around the store every minute to complete 5K in 30 minutes. He needs to walk around the shop counter.

Another employee will mark his laps and record his time.

The game will be broadcast live on YouTube on the day of the game. The customer can also guess his exact completion time and thus have a chance to win prizes from the store.

When asked if he would go all out, Freund's answer was simple: "Oh, yes."
