A traffic crash involving a tanker truck and at least one other vehicle Tuesday afternoon has injured two people and closed the Interstate 270 South local collector highway underneath the East Livingston Avenue overpass on the East Side.

The crash was reported at 3:49 p.m. on the local collector highway, which runs parallel to I-270 South from north of the Main Street interchange to the Interstate 70 interchange.

Details of how the accident occurred were not immediately available but apparently involved a tanker truck with an empty tanker and at least one other vehicle that was believed to be a red Hyundai.

The driver of the tanker truck was transported in stable condition to Ohio Health Grant Medical Center. The Hyundai driver, reported to be a teenage girl, was also transported in stable condition to an area hospital, according to police dispatchers.

According to dispatchers, hazardous material was leaking from the tractor of the tanker truck, which appeared from Ohio Department of Transportation OHGO camera shots of the scene to have sustained heavy front-end damage, possibly from slamming into concrete barriers beneath the East LIvingston Avenue overpass.

The tanker portion of the tanker truck also appeared to have sustained a large dent and damage to its side valves.

Cars stuck in the collector road behind the crash were being directed by two officers on foot to one-by-one turn around and drive north on the southbound collector road back to exit 41a at the Main Street interchange.
