HPE has fulfilled a contract to provide RMIT University with its GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform to help transform the university’s storage capabilities.
RMIT's goal is to replace its traditional storage system to support its ambition to transform its IT approach from acting as an infrastructure manager to being a value enabler.
According to Sinan Erbay, RMIT's chief information officer, HPE GreenLake will allow RMIT to eliminate upfront data storage costs and avoid the need to over-provision capacity.
"The HPE GreenLake platform promotes self-service agility, allowing us to easily deploy resources, view costs, and predict capacity. We only pay for what we use when we use it, and we expand as needed when needed," he said.
Erbay stated that the platform allowed the university to overcome the limitations of its traditional data storage environment and increased its agility during the surge in demand for large research projects.
“Before deploying HPE GreenLake, we held a crisis meeting once a month and faced constraints in providing us with valuable research projects. This is a lot of pressure,” he said.
The university is now exploring expanding its cloud capabilities by introducing a hybrid cloud environment.
"We see HPE Synergy as a composable, software-defined infrastructure to achieve this goal. At the same time, our five-year plan includes large wireless networks and gives our students a better understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)," Erbay said.
