Czech Airlines Dopravní podnik města Ústí nad Labem has signed a framework agreement with Solaris Bus & Coach to deliver up to 20 hydrogen-powered buses

Czech airline Dopravní podnik města Ústí nad Labem has signed a framework agreement with Solaris Bus & Coach to deliver up to 20 hydrogen-powered buses. This is Solaris' first hydrogen-fueled bus contract in the Czech Republic.

The transportation company in Ústí nad Labem and Solaris Bus & Coach have reached a framework agreement on the purchase of a zero-emission Urbino 12 hydrogen-powered bus. It covers a period of 8 years, during which the carrier can order up to 20 hydrogen buses. Once the vehicles are ordered, they will be delivered within 420 days after signing the purchase contract. This is the first hydrogen bus contract in the Czech Republic, but this is not the first cooperation between a bus manufacturer and the city of Rabem. Currently, 44 Solaris buses with different types of propulsion systems are deployed in public transportation there.

"Over the years, we have delivered more than 1,200 vehicles with different drives, namely diesel, CNG vehicles and trolleybuses to the Czech Republic. The latest contract for the delivery of up to 20 hydrogen buses is absolutely groundbreaking. I would like to congratulate the carrier Dopravní podnik města Ústí nad Labem completed this prestigious investment. Considering the speed of technological development and the growing interest of operators, our company feels assured every day that it is on the right track in promoting the decarbonization of public transportation. "Said Petros Spinaris, member of the Solaris sales and after-sales service board.

The Urbino 12 hydrogen bus is the most technologically advanced vehicle manufactured by the manufacturer. The hydrogen bus in question will be equipped with two 125-kilowatt electric motors, an ultra-modern 70-kilowatt fuel cell stack and five composite tanks for hydrogen storage, with a total capacity of 1560 liters. Thanks to the technology applied to them, they will be able to cover at least 350 kilometers in one refill. They will also be equipped with a relatively small Solaris high-power traction battery, whose role is to support the fuel cell at a time when electricity demand increases.

In order to improve the safety of passengers, the vehicle will be equipped with tire pressure and temperature monitoring systems. In addition, the Urbino 12 hydrogen bus bound for Ústí nad Labem will be equipped with a passenger counting system, a visually impaired passenger system and USB charging sockets for each row of seats. They will also be equipped with air conditioners using carbon dioxide heat pumps.

The hydrogen revolution is really underway. At present, Solaris has signed contracts with customers and delivered nearly 100 Urbino 12 hydrogen-powered buses. The company has signed contracts and framework agreements with carriers in Austria, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Sweden and Italy. The Czech Republic has now joined this group of countries.
